EPICS Simulator not only generates simulated EPICS channel access signals but it also fully simulates a particle accelerator (more specifically, a light source). While doing so, there are various assumptions:
  • Simulator components are intelligent, i.e. they don't generate raw data but pre-calculated meaningful data (for instance BPM doesn't give out 4 voltage values but exact beam current & position values). This assumes that components are fully equipped with their DAQ units and thus provide fully digitized data.
  • The simulator uses non standard X (horizontal) - Y (vertical) - Z (longitudinal) axes rather than standard X-Z-Y due to CAD software compatibility concerns.
